Les souvenirs ont ça de puissants, ils ont le pouvoir de nous faire voyager instantanément du présent à un moment précis de notre vie, dans un lieu lointain jadis visité, un sentiment enfoui. Ces bribes sont soudainement accessibles grâce à un déclencheur, qu’il soit une discussion avec un ami, une odeur, une impression. Le flash va et vient; le souvenir nous quitte quelque temps et revient, nous hantant parfois, nous berçant d’autres.
Cela fait déjà quelque temps que j’y travaille. J’ai pris en note les pièces musicales qui avaient, d’une manière ou d’une autre, marqué ma vie. Telle une trame sonore, bioacoustique de mon écosystème, ces pièces résument plusieurs moments clés de ma vie, accompagnent certaines pensées, s’associent à des personnes ou encore à des situations précises.
Pour réaliser l’exercice, je me suis d’abord mis des contraintes: j’allais devoir choisir 100 chansons et pas plus d’une pièce par artiste. Après avoir commencé, je me suis rapidement rendu compte que de tenter de faire un top 100 était voué à l’échec. À vouloir viser le nombre exact de 100, il était peu probable que je ne m’y fasse pas violence: j’allais soit décider d’élaguer des pièces marquantes pour réduire à 100 ou j’allais, au contraire, choisir des pièces pas si marquantes finalement pour combler les trous. De me donner un objectif aussi rigide n’allait pas aider l’affaire. J’allais de toute manière truquer l’exercice et il perdrait instantanément tout son intérêt. J’avais le goût que le projet soit vivant, un peu mobile dans le temps et qu’il s’ajuste au fil de mes retrouvailles. Ainsi, j’ai pondu une liste d’une centaine de titres que j’ai trié par«époques».
